Why Use Only Chemical-Free Cosmetics and Personal Care Products?

What’s In the Bottle, Jar, or Tube?

In the past decade, natural body care products that are certified organic, wild crafted, and toxin-free have changed the way consumers look for cosmetics and personal care products. Today, customers are more savvy and more skeptical about marketing claims. They read labels and know what to look for and what to avoid.

For example, ingredients to avoid include:

– propylene glycol

– sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS)

– sodium laureth sulphate (SLES)

– parabens as prservatives (benzyl

– PABA (Para Amino Benzoic acid)

– formaldehyde

– AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid)

Add to this artificial colors, scents (i.e. parfum), and a host of other hazardous ingredients and you have a toxic mix in your jars and bottles.

For years, manufacturers of cosmetics and personal care products used industrial waste byproducts in their formulas because they are cheap! No one asked about the impact these ingredients have on your skin, your body and your health!

So, to raise awareness, I began to research the topic and in 1999 I published an article “What is really in your beauty products?” which was later revised and published as “Cosmetics to Die For,” “Hidden dangers lurking in your personal care products”, “Chemicals in Cosmetics” and for health food stores “Why buy chemical-free cosmetics and personal care products.”

There are already many chemicals in the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, so why put more toxic chemicals on your body? Whether using a cream, lotion, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, mouthwash or make-up, chemicals are readily absorbed into your bloodstream through the skin. These will damage the liver and kidneys, creating even more health problems.

My recommendation to health food store retailers is to read the labels carefully, and if you can’t pronounce the name of an ingredient, don’t stock it in your store. It is a chemical and your customers need to be educated accordingly.

Natural skincare products contain herbs, flowers, and essential oils to beautify and nourish the skin

Anti-Aging Hyperbole

Be skeptical about label claims. Anti-aging products are particular prone to hyperbole. At age 25, your oil glands produce double the amount of oil as when you’re a 50-year old person, and this continues to decrease with age. Most elderly people don’t drink enough liquid, our body is 70% water, and as skin ages it loses elasticity, becoming thinner and drier and wrinkles appear.

As we age, the layer of fat that gives the skin its soft appearance begins to shrink and eventually does not regenerate. It is therefore very important that you nourish your skin with a natural herbal cream and/or lotion without harmful ingredients twice a day in the morning and evening!

There are Three Types of Aging:

CHRONOLOGICAL AGING: This is impossible to stop, and most anti-aging, pH balanced creams cannot reverse chronological aging, yet women buy into the illusion.

ENVIRONMENTAL AGING: This happens at any age due to the damaging effects of our immediate environment. It is important to protect your skin from the harsh ultra violet rays of the sun and wind, in the winter from frost. Special nourishment is recommended in the fall and winter when the heating is on.

LIFESTYLE AGING: “You are what you eat” since poor nutrition, smoking, alcohol and lack of exercise will affect how you look and feel. Drinking enough chlorine-free and fluoride-free water is important as it flushes out toxins. Furthermore, strive to detox yourself regularly with infrared sauna treatments, especially in the fall and winter.

Conclusion

Words of Wisdom: It is from nature that the disease arises and from nature comes the cure, not from physicians. Author: Paracelsus

Everyone has either naturally healthy and/or damaged skin and most people feel better about themselves and healthier as well, if using chemical-free cosmetics and personal care products and we always should remember: “Health is not everything, but without health everything is nothing.” And “Health is Wealth!”

Life philosophy: “Don’t dream your life, live your dream!”
